On 31 August, ICEF’s newly enrolled undergraduate students gathered at HSE campus on Pokrovsky Boulevard for the Freshmen Welcome Event. Following the presentation of the learning process, university policies and on-campus activities, the students have been issued their Student ID Cards. The briefing covered also the class schedule and other essential aspects about ICEF, but most importantly it encouraged everyone to meet one another.

Francesca Macchia studies Finance at LUISS (Rome) and is in her second year of double-degree track with ICEF’s Master of Financial Economics. This year, Francesca’s paper won the third prize from HSE Student Research Paper Competition. In this interview, Francesca tells about why she chose to study in Russia, how she learned Russian, and what inspired her to choose Econometrics as a field for future PhD research.

HSE has celebrated the completion of its largest sports and fitness event – Inter-Campus Student Football Festival HSE CUP 2023. Competing in it were the teams of HSE Moscow, HSE Nizhny Novgorod and HSE St. Petersburg.

June 25 to July 8, the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China, is hosting the 2023 Global Academy Summer Camp. Corporate Green Innovation and Sustainability. Registered as its participants are eleven bachelor's and master's students of ICEF.

The Econometrics Universiade-2023 has announced its results. This year the contest resumed in-person operation after having been held online for three years, and was marked by the exceptional performance of the ICEF students, its winners.

Apart from solid background in economics, ICEF benefits its students by giving them the opportunities to pursue vibrant social life. Leia Sherman is in her third year of bachelor’s programme and chairs ICEF Student Council, helping her peers with academic tasks and personal queries. In addition to the core curriculum, ICEF offers a wide array of electives allowing students to learn programming, data management and much more. Students are welcome to join on-campus activities or contribute to project work. Here’s how ICEF students customize their learning process, upgrade their skills as researchers or project team members, and join student life by assuming, for example, roles as tutors.

Alexander Zayonts, Founder, President and CEO at Hoff hypermarket chain, delivered his talk, entitled “Promoting Business Under Restrictions”, as part of a series of sessions with leading Russian practicing economists and entrepreneurs. Alexander has a place on ICEF Endowment Fund Board of Trustees. Acting as the moderator was HSE University President Alexander Shokhin.

Alina Shchetnikova is in her first year of bachelor's degree and had been announced winner of the National Economics Olympiad among school students even twice. We asked Alina why she chose ICEF, what makes our learning environment special, and how to decide on a career track when you are a first-year student.
