Vincent Fardeau, ICEF Associate Professor, has published his paper "Asymmetric Thin Markets" in the Journal of Financial Economics (JFE); the printed version appeared this month. This milestone coincides with another significant development: Vincent has successfully completed his major academic review and received tenure. In this interview, Vincent discusses the story behind the paper, the meaning of "asymmetric thin markets," the long road from his first breakthrough insight to final acceptance, and his advice for young scholars aiming for the top-tier journals.

The International College of Economics and Finance (ICEF) at HSE University congratulates its key strategic partner in China — Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) — on an outstanding achievement. According to the latest edition of the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) by ShanghaiRanking, SWUFE has ranked 11th worldwide in the subject area of Finance and 1st among universities in mainland China. This result is a testament to the highest level of academic expertise, research strength, and international standing of our partner. In this subject area, SWUFE stands alongside such leaders in finance education as London Business School (LBS) — 10th place, and the London School of Economics (LSE) — 12th place.

On August 31, ICEF held its annual Freshman Day for the incoming cohort of the International Bachelor’s Programme in Economics and Finance.

From July 5 to 15, 2026, ICEF HSE hosted its Second International Summer School in Economics and Finance, welcoming students from partner universities around the world . The programme brought together thirty bachelor’s and master’s students from China, Turkey, Vietnam, Malaysia, Uzbekistan and Russia, offering a balanced blend of intensive academic training and rich cultural experiences. The academic component was delivered by ICEF and HSE faculty, along with industry experts in economics and financial markets.

From 3 to 5 July 2026, the International Symposium on "High-Quality Development in the New Era of Opening-Up" was held in Chengdu to mark the 20th anniversary of the Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM) at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), one of ICEF HSE University's key partner institutions in China.
