The HSE University has summed up the results of its Student Research Paper Competition-2022, held among students and graduates. For the representatives of ICEF, this contest was yet another proof of their excellent performance. Four won prizes as best finance and economics papers, three more received an honourable mention. This year’s competition among participants was greater than ever: since 2021 the authors of the winning papers receive a special scholarship from HSE for exceptional academic achievements.

Jamila Fomina earned her Master’s in Financial Economics from ICEF in 2020 and her bachelor’s from HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs. Jamila served at SBER CIB Treasury and later joined Citi, serving currently as a senior corporate banking analyst in Dubai. Here’s what Jamila thinks contributed to her graduation with honours, what makes a multinational bank an exciting place to be, and how the business culture in the Middle East is different from that in Europe.

HSE ICEF graduate Yaroslav Kolodyazhnyy left investment industry for IT and is currently running Corporate Department projects at Yandex office in Dubai. Dmitry Aksakov completed the ICEF BSc programme in 2008, then entered MSc programme at the University of Oxford and, after having worked at Deutsche Bank, studied for an MBA at Yale University. Now he is Vice-president at the VEB Development Corporation

Asan Kurmanguzhin graduated from the ICEF BSc programme in 2008, then enrolled on the MSc programme at the London School of Economics. After having worked in McKinsey he also received an MBA from Harvard. He is now a CEO at SberMarket, a part of Sberbank’s ecosystem. SberMarket is a successful online grocery delivery service, which was recently launched all around Russia. In the interview Asan spoke about career building in the technological sphere, e-commerce and the main difficulties of studying on the MBA.

The pre-New Year period traditionally brings together ICEF alumni for what is known as Unconference. Anastasia Erastova, currently a data scientist at BNP Paribas' New York office, graduated in 2018 from ICEF BSc with honors and the title of Russia’s Bridge Vice-Champion.
