Having always had an interest in macroeconomics and economic modeling, in my first year of master’s study I joined an international online conference dedicated to financial soundness. One of its papers discussed the interaction of two policies – monetary and macroprudential. I discussed this topic with my supervisor, whose research interests encompass financial soundness, and he told me where to start.

Often, the hardest part in the research process is to find that article and model to serve as basis for your research. Your supervisor plays an important role here.

The rest is a matter of networking. Once you’ve read the required scope of literature and have the vision of your ultimate result, try to make the most of your connections in research community. By combining the experience of other researchers and the tools available to me, I was able to shape my research into a cohesive paper.

My paper winning the award means that my academic achievements have been high enough to be noticed by the faculty and the top researchers of the HSE. They rated my paper as one of the bests. I feel immensely honoured. The next important step is to try to get my paper published, which involves first presenting it to conferences, discussing it with experienced researchers, adjusting and improving the text, and receiving valuable feedback from the reviewers.
