ICEF team of Master’s Programme in Financial Economics has welcomed its new cohort of students at the Freshers' Day – the opportunity for students to meet their teachers, programme counsellors and seniors in an informal setting to learn what to expect from their years as students.

Led by the managers of ICEF and its bachelor’s degree programme, the event has introduced the newly admitted students to ICEF, its organization of teaching, alumni community and how and where to seek support and assistance. The day involved the tour of the campus where the students met with their tutors and got advice from seniors.

In 2020, prospective students got a new experience: touring and getting to know universities remotely. After passing entrance exams online, many of them are now studying online and have yet to see HSE University in person. We asked Aiganym Daupbayeva, first-year student of the HSE and University of London Double Degree Programme in Economics from Kazakhstan about her experience attending HSE virtually. She discussed how to get into HSE and take classes without leaving your home, and why international students choose HSE University.

Khushnuda Khamidova earned her BSc degree in Economics with Finance in Tashkent before she enrolled in ICEF MSc Programme – the choice she made to gain expert knowledge and life experience.

Initiated by ICEF Alumni Association Board, the Mentoring Programme was launched in 2016, an endeavour first pioneered by ICEF and currently adhered to by entire HSE.

On March 16, the rector decided to move all classes at HSE University online due to COVID-19. The largest universities in Russia and all over the world had to pull off the enormous feat of transitioning to online education immediately. As a result, the ongoing years-long discussions about the pros and cons of online education were put on pause. Academic supervisor of the ICEF bachelor’s programme, Oleg Zamkov, told us about how the ICEF has transitioned online, who can help when something goes wrong, and what resources will be necessary for online examinations.

In 2019, after their first year in ICEF Master’s Programme, three students, Anastasia Melnik, Arseny Turyshev and Nikita Tsyrlin, went to Rome-based LUISS through a double degree programme. Now that they have completed the first term at LUISS, we’ve asked them to share their impressions. Let’s find out why Italians’ relaxed mindset is nothing but a stereotype, why there is power in the ‘Russian mathematics’, where in Rome students can get the best accommodation options, why even thesis defense procedure has a baroque touch at LUISS, and why innovations and fundamental education should evolve separately.

This autumn ICEF BSc programme’s 3^rd and 4^th year students received awards and commendation letters for outstanding results at international examinations, and an official proof of these achievements was delivered to ICEF a few days ago.
