May 22-26, HSE delegation had been on a visit to Sabanсi University International Partnership Week. Based in Istanbul, Sabanсi University is one of Turkey’s leading research schools in the field of economics and social sciences. Attending the venue were also Sabanсi University’s partners in Asia and Latin America, particularly Israel, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, and Peru among other countries.

The partner universities have gathered at Sabanсi University (SU) to share the best practices of organizing learning process, research activities and student exchange. They further considered possible cooperation prospects with regard to joint research and training. Among the areas identified as where the Higher School of Economics and Sabanсi University might pursue joint interests are economics, finance, business, computer science, engineering, social sciences, world economy, political science, and international relations.

The HSE University delegation had among its members the academic supervisors of degree programs, including international ones. They met with their SU colleagues to discuss the prospects for increasing the cooperation towards joint academic and research projects. Alongside ICEF, representing the HSE University were members of its Faculty of Economic Sciences, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, Graduate School of Business, Faculty of Social Sciences, and HSE Campus in St. Petersburg. Acting on behalf of HSE International College of Economics and Finance was its Deputy Director Oleg Zamkov, who serves also as the Academic Supervisor for the International Bachelor's Programme in Economics and Finance.

In his presentation, Professor O. Zamkov shared the experience of using statistical and econometric methods in identifying factors contributing to student excellence. It has been found that student performance in ICEF exams does not depend on the exam mode (offline or online). Professor O. Zamkov further presented ICEF’s processes for training delivery and knowledge assessment, which involve Programme Councils and Examination Boards – the bodies responsible for ensuring high-quality training and absence of grade leniency. The study into ICEF students’ academic performance, which has consistently been praised by partner universities and employers in Russia and globally, involves the use of econometric methodologies and covers a wide range of factors pertaining to individual qualities and inter-faculty approaches.

The trip has resulted in the research teams at ICEF, FES and Sabanсi University already starting to work on a number of joint initiatives, and next year the cooperation will see further increase. Work is in process to finalize the inter-institutional agreement towards increasing student exchange.
