Anna Kopytina is studying for her master’s at IE Business School, where she joined a student team to compete in CFA Institute Research Challenge 2022. In the Global Finals, the team emerged as the second-place overall winners worldwide.

Anna Kopytina, who earned her bachelor’s from ICEF in 2020 and is studying a Master of Finance at IE Business School in Spain, has excelled in CFA Institute Research Challenge 2022 as part of IE Business School’s student team. Her team ranked first place in Spain and Europe and won second place overall globally.

“The biggest highlight for me was how well our group worked together and bonded. It was such a pleasure to work alongside them, even as we spent our weekends on campus and stayed after class, working until 3 a.m some nights. I think we make a very good combination, with different approaches enabling us to split the work and remain productive, while still thinking critically about every detail,” said Anna.

Competing in the CFA Research Challenge Global Finals were five teams – University of Sydney - CFA Society Sydney; IE Business School - CFA Society Spain; Polytechnic University of Milan - CFA Society Italy; Northern Illinois University – CFA Society Chicago; and University of British Columbia - CFA Societies Okanagan, Victoria, and Vancouver. The challenge involved working with information, ESG analytics, macroeconomic context, as well as cross-sectional analysis of investments including equity investment. With all this, the skills that matter most are teamwork and awareness of contexts – historical, political and social. This year, 6400 students from 1100 universities competed in CFA Research Challenge in 90 countries around the globe. “We have a responsibility to collaborate across industries and, indeed, across the globe, as it relates to solving world’s toughest challenges,” says Marg Franklin, President and СЕО of CFA Institute. “These efforts require collaboration, education and, of course, capital. I’m inspired by the words of our mission at CFA Institute – to lead the investment profession globally by promoting the highest standards of ethics, education and professional excellence.”

After completing her bachelor’s at ICEF, Anna started working in Financial Advisory at EY. “One reason why I chose IE Business School is the practical and skill-oriented focus of the Master in Finance programme, and the fact that almost all professors are practitioners who have years of experience in the industry,” tells Anna.

Anna currently serves as a banking analyst with Citi in the group’s new Malaga office. Her job involves working with teams located in Citi’s other European offices on IPOs and M&As in different sectors, and assisting in day-to-day tasks such as preparing presentations, undertaking market research and producing valuations.

As a reminder, past spring, under the mentorship of Dmitry Kachalov and Kirill Chuiko, HSE 2/ ICEF team won Russia's national final of CFA Institute Research Challenge, repeating their previous success of 2020.

About CFA Institute Research Challenge:

CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition where students work in teams to research and analyze a publicly traded company designated by a local CFA society. Each team writes a research report on their assigned company with a BUY, SELL, or HOLD recommendation and may be asked to present and defend their analysis to a panel of industry professionals. The judges look at quality of the analysis, valuation, report and presentation. An excellent springboard for career start, CFA Institute Research Challenge provides university students with an opportunity to put their knowledge of finance into practice while being mentored by professional research analysts.
