New Teacher Orientation Seminars 2024

Traditionally conducted by the ICEF Center for Learning Technologies, the orientation seminars are delivered to all newly hired teachers regardless of their previous experience whether as lecturers or seminar teachers.

Spanning two days before the start of the academic year, these orientation seminars are designed to ease new hires into the workplace and to introduce them to the academic standards of ICEF. Every year the teacher orientation seminars have as speakers ICEF’s current professors, enabling the new hires to learn more about the philosophy and principles of our teaching culture and to fully integrate into the team.

Opening this year’s orientation was Oleg Zamkov, ICEF Deputy Director. Professor Zamkov presented ICEF and its academic environment and gave details of the current bachelor’s and master’s programmes, and the newly started double-degree with China’s Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE).

Day one also involved a training session on the theory and practice of seminar teaching, led by Natalia Kolyadina of ICEF Center for Learning Technologies. Day two had as key topics evaluation and feedback.

Invited to share his seminar teaching experience was Alexey Kipriyanov, who joined the ICEF faculty in 2021. The newly hired teachers were mostly interested to know what they can do to motivate the students and make teaching and learning more productive.

Professor Yaroslav Lyulko, who joined ICEF in 2020 and holds multiple Students’ Choice Teaching Awards, presented his vision of the lifelong learning track from cognate disciplines perspective. Prof. Lyulko also shared his experience of building rapport with students in class and in online communication.

Welcome aboard! We wish you a productive journey as you engage your students in the new academic year.
