Student Research Paper Competition (NIRS) 2018: Results

Results calculated for 2018 HSE Student Research Paper Competition. ICEF students and graduates show great results!

1) In the nomination ‘Best Research in Economics for Master’s students and Graduates of 2018’, ICEF Bachelor’s and Master’s students took nearly all of the prizewinner and laureate places!

The absolute winner was ICEF first-year Master’s student Nikita German for his work: ‘Fiscal Multiplier and the Size of Government Spending Shock’. Academic Supervisor: Madina Karamysheva.

Second and Third Place for this nomination went to ICEF Bachelor’s graduates:

- Maria Verbetskaya took Second Place for her work: ‘Government Regulation of the Market for Higher Education’. Academic Supervisor: Mark Levin;

- Andrei Zaloilo took Third Place for his work: ‘Belief Independency and Equilibrium Refinements in Signaling Games”. Academic Supervisor: Emiliano Catonini.

The four laureates included 3 ICEF graduates:

- Alexandr Shirobokov, Master’s graduate, for his work: ‘Sovereign Debt and Debt Renegotiation’. Academic Supervisor: Udara Peiris;

- Arina Mukhamedzyanova, Bachelor’s graduate, for her work: ‘Poverty Level Estimation in Russia’. Academic Supervisor: Fabian Slonimczyk;

- Irina Tretyakova, Bachelor’s graduate, for her work: ‘Commuting, Migration or Both: the Role of Transportation Tariff’. Academic Supervisor: Andrei Dementiev.

One more laureate, HSE Master’s graduate Nina Bogorditskaya (for her work: ‘State Policy in a Model for Mixing Oligopoly with Endogenous Costs’, Academic Supervisor: Alla Fridman) is already employed at ICEF as a teacher.

2) In the nomination ‘Best Research in Finance for Bachelor’s Students’, the laureate was third-year ICEF student Mikhail Govorov for his work: ‘Banking Crisis: A Model with Universal Uncertainty’. Academic Supervisor: Ekaterina Kazakova.

3) In the nomination ’Best Research in Finance for Master’s Students and Graduates of 2018’, the laureate was second-year Master’s ICEF student Sergei Filyasov for his work: ‘CEO Turnover and Performance in State-Related Firms’. Academic Supervisor: Fabian Slonimczyk.

Practically all winners, during the period of their studies at ICEF, took part, or are taking part, in programmes for the best learners, with a focus on academic career development: ICEFAcademia and Advanced Research Program (ARP).
