LSE Director Howard Davies at ICEF

On December 14, ICEF was honoured by a visit of one of the most distinguished experts in economics and finance in the world, LSE Director Howard Davies.

Prior to being appointed LSE Director, Howard Davies was Chairman of the Financial Services Authority (the UK's single financial regulator since 1998). Also, he had previously served for two years as Deputy Governor of the Bank of England after three years as Director General of the Confederation of British industry. Since 2004, he is a member of the Morgan Stanley Board of Directors.


During the day Mr. Davies met with ICEF Directorate, taught a seminar to ICEF MSc students, and then met with A. Shokhin, HSE President, E. Yasin, HSE academic superviser, V. Radaev, HSE vice rector, and representatives of ICEF Board of Trustees - S. Dubinin, VTB Capital Member of the Board of Directors, M. Zadornov, VTB24 President – Chairman of the Board and CEO. The parties discussed contemporary issues in development and cooperation of the two universities.

Great interest was aroused by Howard Davies’ lecture on the financial crisis ("The Financial Crisis: Who is to blame?"), which was held at the HSE Cultural Center in the afternoon. The lecture was attended by more than 500 people, many of whom were students, teachers, researchers and \specialists in the field of economics and finance.The same evening, Howard Davies spoke at the reception for ICEF and LSE alumni, which was also held at the HSE Cultural Center.
