On November 29, 2010 ICEF was honoured by a visit of one of the most distinguished experts in economics and finance in the world, LSE Director Howard Davies. This is the third visit of H. Davies for 3 years and, simultaneously, for the 13-year history of ICEF.

Prior to being appointed LSE Director, Howard Davies was Chairman of the Financial Services Authority (the UK's single financial regulator since 1998). Also, he had previously served for two years as Deputy Governor of the Bank of England after three years as Director General of the Confederation of British industry. Since 2004, he is a member of the Morgan Stanley Board of Directors.

The results of almost thirteen-year cooperation for creation and development of international educational and research programmes, including the double-degree BSc programme, the MSc programme in Financial Economics and the recently opened  ICEF International Research Laboratory in Financial Economics (joint with LSE) were discussed during Mr. Davies' meeting with ICEF Directorate.

Great interest was aroused by Howard Davies’ public lecture «Europe – The Lost Continent?», which was held at the HSE Cultural Center in the afternoon. Sergey Dubinin (VTB Capital Member of the Board of Directors, Chairman of ICEF Board of Trustees) presided at the lecture. The lecture was attended by more than 500 people, many of whom were students, teachers, researchers and specialists in the field of economics and finance.

Then, Mr. Davies taught a seminar titled «Regulation since the Crisis: What has changed and is it enough?» to the MSc students, during which a lively discussion arose, and the guest answered numerous sophisticated questions.

The same evening, Howard Davies spoke at the reception for ICEF and LSE alumni, which was also held at the HSE Cultural Center. During the event, the graduates ate, talked and shared their impressions of their studies at MSc and PhD programmes abroad, as well as discussed their current jobs.
