Card game masters claim that careful analysis of the opponent’s combinations is a key to winning, enabled by the key capabilities in game theory data science. Anastasia Erastova, currently a data scientist at BNP Paribas' New York office, graduated in 2018 from ICEF BSc with honors and the title of Russia’s Bridge Vice-Champion. In her interview to Success Builder Anastasia explains why math and card games are entwined, what makes studying next door to Wall Street beneficial, and how mathematics students can get a work visa for the USA.

Yury Kiselev graduated from ICEF in 2006, and after that entered the MSc programme at Cass Business School in London – one of the best business schools. Now Yury is a Director at Société Générale Bank (London office) and Head of Central and Eastern Europe, CIS & Russia on the international Debt Capital Markets. In this interview he told us what ‘bonus’ ICEF confers on its graduates, how to recognize your true purpose and why goals should be ‘over the top’.

Vladimir Mukharlyamov enrolled at ICEF after his success in the All Russian Olympiads in Economics and Entrepreneurship. After graduating from ICEF BSc in 2008 he continued studies on the MSc programme in Finance and Economics at the London School of Economics. On completion of his MSc Vladimir started a PhD in Economics at Harvard University. Since 2016 he has worked as an Assistant Professor of Finance at Georgetown University. His research has been published in The Journal of Financial Economics and The Review of Financial Studies. Vladimir is a winner of Golden HSE Award in the Alumni Success category.

Martsella Davitaya is an ICEF 2017 BSc programme graduate who received first class degrees from both HSE and University of London. Right after her BSc she entered a PhD programme at Columbia University (USA), where she is currently studying, doing research and teaching. In the interview she spoke about her career choices, her impressions of studying at Columbia and her future plans.

Dmitry Storcheus graduated from ICEF’s BSc programme in 2011 and then entered the MSc programme in Mathematics at The Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences in New York (NYU). In 2017, after working for Google for several years, he continued hisstudies at NYU on a PhD programme created jointly with the corporation. Currently he is a Software Engineer in the Google Research department in NY and conducts research with one of the institute’s most outstandingresearchers, Professor Mehryar Mohri, who is also his colleague in the Google Research laboratory. Dmitry specializes in Machine Learning (ML), in particular in AutoML – the most cutting-edge trend which allows the creation ofself-studying neural networks that do not demand the participation of a programmer.

Khushnuda Khamidova earned her BSc degree in Economics with Finance in Tashkent before she enrolled in ICEF MSc Programme – the choice she made to gain expert knowledge and life experience.

In 2018 Vladimir Malygin was awarded master degrees from both ICEF and Erasmus University, Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Now he works as a quant in the Dutch company Aegon. In his interview he told us whatquants do, how it is possible to study for two master’s degrees at the same time, andwhy personal qualities are important for candidates who apply to be quants.

Dan Lifshits, ICEF BSc graduate (2014), started his career at the age of 18. At 22 he became the youngest аssociate of McKinsey in Europe ever, and now he is one of the top managers in Gett – a global technology platform. Dan told us how to change the consulting sphere to technologies and about his life and work in Gett.

Two new academics will start their work at ICEF in September 2020. They have already met ICEF researchers and were interviewed on the ASSA Meeting – a global academic community job market which took place in San Diego this January.

On January 13, 2020, an Endowment for ICEF Development was formed within the HSE Endowment Fund. This is the way to gain sustainability in the long-term perspective. The first donor of the ICEF endowment was UniCredit Bank.
