Meet ICEF's New PhD Faculty Members

ICEF continues to expand its team of internationally qualified faculty members holding PhD degrees. Starting September 2025, three new faculty members will join ICEF: Nicolas Lagios, Viktor Malein, and Anna Rozhkova.

Meet ICEF's New PhD Faculty Members

Nicolas Lagios, PhD, Université libre de Bruxelles

Nicolas Lagios holds a PhD in Economics from Université libre de Bruxelles. Prior to his appointment at ICEF, he was an Assistant Professor at Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan) and held a visiting research position at NYU Abu Dhabi. His work has appeared in leading journals including The Economic Journal and Journal of Industrial Economics, with research expertise covering applied microeconomics, political economy, and cultural economics.

Victor Malein, PhD, University of Southern Denmark

Victor Malein is a researcher specializing in Economic history, Economic growth and development, as well as Historical demography. He obtained his PhD in Economics from the University of Southern Denmark and an MA degree in Economics from the New Economic School in Russia. Victor has research experience as a postdoctoral fellow at Lund University (Sweden). His works are currently under review or have been accepted for publication in leading academic journals including Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Economic History, Explorations in Economic History and AEA Papers and Proceedings.

Anna Rozhkova, PhD candidate, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto

Anna Rozhkova is a PhD candidate in Finance at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. Anna will be awarded her PhD degree in summer 2025. She graduated with honors from ICEF with a Bachelor’s degree in 2013 and Master’s degree in 2015. Her research interests focus on Asset management. Anna’s work on the Impact of government regulation on mutual fund industry and investments in savings plans for higher education funding has been presented at leading academic conferences. Prior to starting her PhD program, Anna also worked at the Research and Forecasting Department of the Bank of Russia where she published several scientific articles in macrofinance.

The new faculty members will teach courses in Financial theory and its practical applications, Data analysis methods for economists, and Applied economics.
